Wow. 3 years. 3 years since I decided to start a little business called Craven Content!
At that time, I was working a full-time job in financial planning (of all things) and had absolutely no idea how I’d start a business, but my passion for writing drove me and I went for it anyway. And in October 2017, at just 15 months of age, I quit my job and Craven Content became a full-time gig!
Since then, I’ve been running my business day and night from the comfort of my own home in Perth, often in my pyjamas. I’m doing it all too – from creating content and writing copy, to reconciling my accounts and managing the admin side of things.
It hasn’t always been easy but my love of what I do, along with perseverance and commitment has led me to where I am today – FINALLY earning a stable income (thank you regular clients!) and have even advertised for my very own assistant – who would have thought?
So, what do 3 years in business look like? Or let’s say 21 months in business fulltime officially?
My small business roller coaster ride
There was a time when I never thought I’d be advertising for my very own assistant – For real!
And in the interest of being totally real, here’s a little snapshot of my little business roller coaster ride so far:
Woohoo! This is so great. I love writing at home in my pyjamas. #killingit
I can’t do it. I’m not good enough. My clients don’t like me. No one likes me. I’m going to have to go and get a job. I can’t do this. #isuck
Hang on… I can do this. I’ve got like 5 clients now and BNI is so awesome. I can totally do this! #bossbabe
I need at least 10 clients to earn a stable income, but I still only have 5. I’m never going to get 10. How am I ever going to get 10? I’m going to have to ask Dad for money again, or get a job, or do both – I can’t do this!!! I’m a failure!!! (whilst crying on the floor) #meltdown
15 clients – woohoo! God, I’m good. I can’t believe I was ever thinking of giving up! What was I thinking?
Time to party and celebrate my success with everyone. Yeah. I’m amazing. #cravencontentis1
I am going on an overseas holiday AND I don’t have to submit an annual leave form. Is that cool, or is that cool? (it’s pretty cool).
I have to write two months’ worth of content in one month before I go though AND I won’t get paid a lot whilst I’m away… #stilltotallyworthit
I did it. I got over the difficult hump post-holiday.
I’m earning a great income again and finally feel financially stable and secure! #i’vegotthis
Here I am today, with 20 regular clients on my books and marketing agencies asking ME to write content for them.
FINALLY earning a stable income (thank you regular clients!) and have even advertised for my very own assistant – who would have thought? #bosslady
The ride is far from over
It’s not over though. I’m nowhere near finished yet. Why? Because I have SO much more I want to achieve and can’t wait to go out and achieve it!
Yes, I do most of it on my own, but I couldn’t do it without my incredible clients, supportive partner, brilliant BNI team and amazing family (shout out to my Mum #number1fan) and friends.
Here’s to many more years of Craven Content, believing in myself, taking risks and going out and achieving my dreams!
Small business – it might be a roller coaster, but it’s totally worth the ride.
